![]() It's extremely difficult to find startable QBs in this league let alone someone who can put up Kirk's numbers. This team from Zygi down to KOC isn't blowing it up to rebuild. Tl Dr: Drafting a top-10 QB isn't happening anytime soon. When I spend $3,000 a season on tickets and another $950 on parking.I want to go there and see fun football and not Donovan McNabb 4.0 throwing warm burners for 60 minutes. I believe that window closed.īut I'm not buying into a plan of "Get rid of Kirk, sign journeyman, and hope we can find a QB in the mid-teens or else we just move on to journeyman to journeyman until we find a rookie who can be a top-15 QB.which this franchise has done ONCE in the past 40 years (Culpepper).Īnd yes, you can call it a fear mentality. If you say "OK, we're going to keep Kirk for a couple more years and we're going to take a shot at a rookie QB." That'd be absolutely perfect. Even with a journeyman like Minshew, we'd still probably be 6-11.7-10. However, this team is too good to get the #1 pick or even sniff a top-10 pick. How do you see this team, as it's constructed now, being able to draft ANY QB in the top-15 let alone top-10? This team, even without Kirk, is still probably not bad enough to get a chance at the #1 pick. Does this team have a HOF RB or all-time defense? We have Jefferson but is he Jefferson with Trubisky throwing him the ball? True but it took an all-time defense and/or a HOF RB to drag Ponder, Jackson, Teddy, Keenum to the playoffs. So you're saying it's all Kirk's fault? How many QBs in this league would get that defense farther than Kirk did last year? 5? ![]() Regardless if Mahomes panned out or not, that had a QB who brought the team to the playoffs all but one of his seasons (still 9-7) with the team. The Vikings haven't picked in the top-10 for just about a decade. Or do you keep your fringe top-10 QB and rely on KAM's alleged analytics in scouting players and build around Kirk via the draft and hope your defense doesn't give up the 2nd most passing yards and 3rd most points in 2023+? made for some absolutely disgusting football only saved by future HOFer Adrian Peterson dragging this team behind him.ĭo you get rid of Kirk and try to do what we did for 30 years and piece it together season-by-season and hope a rookie pans out? If the rookie doesn't pan out, the franchise gets set back another 3-5 years. I fully understand that Kirk's contract is a hinderance and we're kind of stuck in this pattern of being a playoff team but that's it but the days of Josh Freeman, McNabb, Ponder, Webb, Cassel, etc. Those dark days at QB are something I do not want to go back to. I'd say my biggest argument about not keeping Kirk is that fact that this franchise has been a league embarrassment at the QB position for the better part of 35 years.
